(I Read) The Precipice: Neoliberalism, the Pandemic and the Urgent Need for Social Change by Noam Chomsky

I first heard of “neoliberalism” when I saw The Precipice’s cover. Based on the conversation Noam Chomsky had with C.J. Polychroniou which is the content of this book, it seems neoliberalism encourages independence from government – no price controls in economy, no nudges from governments on businesses etc. – which sounds positive in theory but the reality is anything but positive due to the corruption implanted deep within institutions and the wickedness of humans.

I feel half of the conversation is Trump-centric – Chomsky could reword its subtitle to “Modern-day Colonialism and the Dangers of Trumpism” and folks would still buy the book. 😂 A LOT of focus on Trump’s budget cuts and the ripple effects. I wish the conversation surrounding the pandemic focused on misuse of power and the silencing of critical thinkers. I’m curious what are Chomsky’s thoughts having seen everything that’s unfolded in recent years.

At the end of the day, we decide how to colour our lives. Sometimes the colour becomes a shade darker or brighter, sometimes the colour is replaced by a completely different colour. I let my understanding of the religion, my observation through life and perspectives to colour my life.

On to the next one!
