(I Read) Dublin Palms by Hugo Hamilton
‘Twas an utterly light read. It felt like reading someone’s journal at times which means it’s only a matter of time until I forget I ever read this.
Set in what may well be the 1980s and narrated by the main character, the story can be split into two parts:
- Reflecting on growing up with parents who witnessed the horrors of the Troubles and the second world war
- Caring for a growing family whilst creating sense of belonging
No takeaways from the novel to be honest – I got bored towards the end. It’s a stark contrast to the conversations I had with friends I met whilst in KL.
