(I Read) End Game, the final William Warwick novel by Jeffrey Archer

Front cover of End Game

Whilst on the ETS to KL, I realised I had forgotten to place my current read into the bag – right after arriving in TRX, I went straight to MPH to buy the penultimate novel by my favourite crime-drama author, Jeffrey Archer, the final volume of the William Warwick series which I’ve utterly enjoyed over the years.

It’s inevitable that the series would end but I’d always wondered at the end of each volume: will Miles Faulkner always prevail? His sneaky, villainy character together with his relationship with his ever-trusted lawyer Booth Watson QC makes the character fascinating thus imagine my surprise when Miles Faulkner of all people can feel guilt over the possible loss of numerous innocent lives!

The story’s set during the preparation for the London Olympics and during the Olympics. Warwick and his team are assigned to cover the event. Supposedly some events used in the story did happen but Jeffrey Archer doesn’t mention which. The story will look like Faulkner and Booth Watson are going to commit merely small-time crimes until the Chinese and the Russians enter the scenes.

The suspense with certain events were typical Jeffrey Archer. I’m going to miss it when he lays down his pen.

I’m not going to spoil for anyone on what happens to Faulkner but it was a sorry ending for what I feel was a remarkable villain. Considering any medium of fiction, Miles Faulkner, Jack Farthing’s George Warleggan, and Hans Landa are by far my favourite villains.

I wouldn’t rule out using The Clifton Chronicles and William Warwick as bedtime stories for when I have children. 😆
